Themis was founded in 2012 by a team consisting of diverse legal and finance professionals including former law professors, the retired Managing Partner of an AmLaw 20 law firm and a retired judge. Since its founding, Themis has built a select network of funding partners with which Themis co-invests. These select funding partners enable Themis to fund a very broad spectrum of litigation finance opportunities because each of them has a differentiated investment criteria based upon transaction size, subject matter and risk profile. This network enables Themis to fund a very broad range of transaction types.
The Managing Member of Themis is Edward A. Reilly, Jr. Before co-founding Themis, Ed Reilly was a corporate partner with several international law firms, including Goodwin Procter; Morgan Lewis & Bokius and LeBoeuf, Lamb, Greene & McRae. Over the course of his career, he represented corporations and financial sponsors including prominent venture capital, mezzanine, private equity and hedge funds for more than 30 years.
Since founding Themis Legal Capital in 2012, Ed has immersed himself in the Claim Based Funding business. Themis has sourced, evaluated, structured and funded numerous commercial litigation finance transactions. Ed has also spoken and written extensively on commercial litigation finance. Ed is admitted to the bar in New York, Connecticut and the District of Columbia. He is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Columbia University School of Law.
